 Indian Army 

Indian Army one of the greatest organisation of our nation and also one among the largest standing Army's of the world. 
          It is a purely volunteer army and is 1.48 million strong active duty soldiers and 1.15 million reserve personnel ,that means total of 2.63 million individuals. Army is led by 53,569 strong officer cadre while our army has a total strength of 61,360 officers that means we are shortfall of 7,791 officers in our military. 
           In addition to that, we have 53,056 non-commissioned officers in addition to 6,647 in AMC/ADC and 3,866 in MNS. 

In this Article we will know about the rank structure of commissioned and non-commissioned officers from top to bottom .

Intresting Fact:- the post of field Marshal is created in 1973. The first who got this title is Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw (promoted in 1973) and the next one is Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa (promoted in 1986). Since then the position is vacant and it will remain as it is unless the President of India provides the rank to any officer in a certain exceptional circumstances.

Some other informations

CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF (COAS)  the only for Star general in the entire Army. 

VICE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF (VCOAS) two DEPUTY CHIEFS OF ARMY STAFF (DCOAS) and other PRINCIPAL STAFF OFFICERS (PSOs) all are of the rank of Lt General (Three Star General).
